hello

Recommended Posts

ok, I was on here a while ago, but never ended up taking the hobby up (blame real life, and not being able to decide which telescope to buy)

Just over a year ago, I took up archery, and have just bought a second hand Acuter ST22-67x100, for arrow spotting.

So,  I also have a DSLR.

Last night I used the Acuter to look at the moon,   and now I remember why I was looking at getting a telescope

firstly, are there any adapters that would allow a 1.25 eyepiece to fit into the Acuter( I know Acuter do their own range of single size eyepieces, right down to 6mm I think, but I dont think they woudl be of a high quality or any where near the range of a 1.25 piece)

Secondly,   can anybody help me with a little information.

I want to conect my DSLR to the scope,  I understand ( havent looked yet) that there is a thread for a T-mount underneath the rubber on the eyepiece,   but the youtube review I saw said that you have to use an extension tube because the camera woudl be too close ( now that in itself doesent really sound right to me, because a lens screws right to the end of the camera, and by using a t-mount you are effectively turning the scopes eyepiece into the lens - simplified descripion-  so why does it need to be further away)  and secondly the only extension tube I can see, have only one thread / mount so how does that connect to both the camera AND the T-mount thread on the eyepiece.

Any guidance would be greatly apreciated.

I had a look on that site,  to be honest im still not much the wiser..  I have a reversing mount adapter ( which is used to screw a lens on backwards, for macro) but that is a completely different size to the Acuter eye piece

Think I will email them on there and see if they can direct me to the cortect solution.

Thanks for the link.

  • 3 weeks later...

well,  I bought a few addons/

Bought an acuter ST 5mm eypiece and the adapter to fit a camera ( its their own extension tub with a t-thread on)

Took it out at the weekend, and could see Jupiter, including the moons and could make out the differnt colours.

Unfortunatly even though my tripod is a decent one ( a manfrotto) for photography, it isnt sturdy enough for this kind of stuff.

while focused on Jupiter, the image was shaking slightly, I figured out that by moving away from the eye piece ever so slightly the image would stabalise and I could get a decent look.

But every time I conected the camera up, the tripod head woudl move under the weight and I was unable to find the planet with the camera attached.   perhaps I just need to practice, or maybe I need a sturdier tripod.

was quite exciting, to be able to see that bright "star" was actualy a planet,  and then to be able to see it at even that levle of detail was a buzz.

the problem is of course, I now want to see it in better detail ....
