Camera Connection Problems PHD 2

I use a YesYes LX-modded SPC900 with PHD 2.

Some evenings when I connect (I usually use 2 or 4 secs exposure) I keep getting the camera connected message, but just a mid-grey noise display with hot pixels showing, that refreshes at the selected 2 or 4 seconds rate.

If I keep trying to connect/disconnect I eventually get a proper black background with white stars displayed.

I get 100% connection success with SharpCap.

Also how often should I get a brief "star Lost" message? 

Is this when the camera is caught mid-exposure with PHD expecting a frame to be downloaded?

Sounds to me as though you're getting an auto stretched image....which from my experience ( definately with PHD1 - not 100% sure with PHD2) occurs when the camera doesn't see any stars.

Have tried the gamma slider?

Thanks Steve 1962, does sound like not seeing stars as gamma slider does not improve matters.

To answer one of my own questions, I did some tests at different exposures.

At 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 seconds exposures I got the noisy image.

at 1.5, 2.5. 3.5, 4.5  seconds exposure I got a clean image.

Someone explain that one please.....

Do you take darks ? also found that slewing the scope while looping caused this grey screen effect.

Davey-T, does your image clear after you've finished panning?

I'd forgotten about darks, I tried darks a couple of times in the past but I always got an unusable image (I don't remember the details).
