Nikon D70s filter removal

I've decided to modify my old Nikon D70s by removinf the filter over the sensor. It doesn't look like too difficult a job on this older model of camera as you don't need to take evrything to bits to gain access. It appears that only the back cover needs to be taken off, which is held on by four screws, and then a further four screws need to be removed to take the sensor mounting plate off. With care the connector ribbons don't even need to be detached. Now, the question is will I need a replacement IR/UV filter? I've heard that this will be needed with a refractor to avoid star bloating but I'll be using it with my 200P Newtonian. Do I, therefore, need to concern myself with this. I use a coma corrector which is the only piece of glass in the optical train.

Thanks

Dave

Hello,

i´m not sure what your current status is, but i do have a full spectrum D5100 and i can`t see any star bloat with my 8" GSO Newtonian (very similar to your 200p) and Baader coma corrector. So it seems that the system with coma corrector is still truly achromatic.

best regards
