Red Screen for Laptop?

Hi All, I have recently bought a lovely new laptop to use for imaging and it works great.  Only problem is that it has a touch screen, which I am surprised to say I am finding incredibly useful.  With my old laptop I just bought one of StarSharp Red Filter screens from FLO, which was very useful at night .  I have been using this on my new laptop, but I want to use the touch screen, obviously not possible when the StarSharp Red Filter is in place .  Does anyone know of a way of turning the whole screen into a Red Mode?  I can see that it can be done with a MAC, but searching for Red screens on google just gives people complaining about how their screens have gone red because of some bug .  Anyone know if / how this can be done on a window 8.1 laptop?

if you download cart du ceil it has a night vision mode which on win 7 makes all programs go red.

I use software called 'redscreen' puts all programs on a pc into red mode, and you can switch back and forth, see no reason why it won't work on windows 8 - worth a try.

Thanks for all your suggestions, decided to try Chris's as it looks like the simplest.  Downloaded and it seems to work, will see what it is like outside later this week; hopefully .

The problem with many software red screens is that some pop-up dialogue boxes don't seem to play ball.

On my Windows 8 laptop, I created a "Red" display profile using the Intel Graphics display utility. I right click on the desktop, click Graphics Properties + Display - Set to 0 the Green and Blue channels for brightness, contrast and gamma and save the profile as "Red" - When I take the laptop outside I simply Click Graphics Properties and select the "Red" profile from the drop down list and viola, red screen.

Personally, I would use a grey filter instead or a screen dimmed almost to the point of being black. I may be the only one in the world that finds red light extremely disturbing to my night vision... Go figure

Take a look at the Backyard Red program that Steve Ward posted above. It can be set to any colour - or non-colour for black - that are in your computer. Grey included. And you can select the intensity on a sliding scale.

Thanks, Dave. If I ever need it I'll look at it. As things are right now I am never in the outdoors with a computer. Always indoors, in the warmth, with the scope stuff either 20 feet away on the balcony or 2380 km away in southern France
