Jupiter and it's moons

Hi all.

Very exciting evening for me. Had my Skywatcher 150p since Christmas and have had limited opportunity to use the scope.

Tonight is clear and I managed, despite living next to a quarry with floodlights, to find Jupiter and it's moons.

Got a bit excited and tried to take some pics using my mobile camera.

They're not as exciting as the view with the naked eye. I was using the stock 10mm and 2x Barlow. I have a 6mm on the way in the next few days so may get some even better views perhaps. Wish I could figure out how to upload the pics!

There really is nothing like seeing it live is there?

Nice - what did you take that pic with? After the weather Liverpool has had it's pleasing that it is so clear around my way tonight - got really clear views of Jupiter

Samsung galaxy s4 and 12mm BST i was holding the phone over the eyepiece i must make or buy something to hold it properly.

Hi sirenity, I have to admit it was pretty special. I used a 10mm with 2x Barlow. It was so easy to find too

To upload images click on "More Reply Options" at bottom right when posting.

Look at bottom left of new screen that appears click "Choose File", navigate to the file on your computer then click "Attach This File", click add reply.

As Astro Imp has kindly informed you its very easy, I have just saw an attachment that may work so I don't have to hold the phone so I can get better photo`s only trouble is it`s £39 for a bit of plastic.

I don't get "more reply options" on my mobile. I'll try from my laptop tomorrow. I got a t2 ring today to attach an SLR camera but forgot to get the t2 adapter. Oops! Noobs luck!

Check your eyepiece adaptor, it may seperate, giving you the threaded section to connect to the T-ring.

If you look carefully enough you can just about see lines around Jupiter.....JUST

Saw Jupiter on the 10th.  I wasn't sure at first.  I was using Stellarium software as a guide.  I locked my red dot finder on it and just used different eyepieces and 2x magnifyer.  It was as small as a pea, but I was able to differentiate between the cream/white area and the orange/brown.  I was also able to view three of the moons.  My wife even came to take a look.  It was Awesome!  I don't use that word too much, but I'm using it  more and more as I view,

Amazing that just a few years ago that these pictures post here would have been beyond most amateur astronomers. Now any amateur astronomer has the capability.
You just got to love the invention of the digital camera, in all it's guises.

Hi . I am complete novice and after observing the moon on the first few nights I have moved onto to Jupter. The planet and its moons are breath taking. Love my new hobby! I  have a skywatcher 150p and various eyepieces and barlows 2 x lense.

Browny you have the same scope as me. I have 10x 25x and 6x plus a 2x Barlow. The 6x gives a very good image of Jupiter. Worth an investment!

I too saw Jupiter and it's moons for the first time 3 nights ago with my Skywatchers 250px, it was a cloudy evening and the moon was almost full but there were some gaps in the clouds for the first time in ages so I put the scope out in case it cleared. I got lucky and also noticed Jupiter, or rather what I suspected was Jupiter. I had just installed a Telrad so lined it up and lo and behold I was right....how gorgeous to see live and how bright are its moons!! It flew across my view using my 2x Barlow and my stock 10 mm EP but could easily make out the bands just amazing! Hoping to see the Red Spot on a clearer night and perhaps a darker location

Hoping to view Jupiter tonight if there's a break in the sky. Still has the WOW factor for me . Have just purchased a double drive motor so going to dot he whole pole star set up thing first. Haven't got a polar scope fitted but looking on the forums here for advice shouldn't be a problem.
