Jupiter 31/01 from Bembridge

Better conditions again tonight, with the wind dropping to a manageable level and reasonable seeing.  Timing was perfect, with the GRS giving a nice presentation.    Lots of data to look through, but this was my last run of the night at 4000mm focal length - the blue channel capture hung out at 1526 frames, so I stacked a rather noisy 1000 frames, other channels were 2000 of 6000 frames.

Nice data there Jake and Simon has brought the detail to the surface more. Extra contrast can make a big difference on some images.

Thanks Simon, that little tweak made a massive difference! Hope the clouds part for you - looks like it will clear down here, but it's very windy again!

Lovely capture!  I had a quick look from Ryde last night but with the wind and only a 130mm Reflector I stood little chance of much detail.  I see you use the QHY5 - is that the colour version? If so, would you rate it well for a 1st planetary device?

Yep I went out at 10 last night and decided against - it was very gusty, though the sky looked good.

The colour Qhy5l-ii's are good cams and can capture some really good shots - they come in to their own when conditions are variable. I'm using the mono version with baader lrgb filters. In good conditions this will return better results, but good conditions seem to occur rarely in the UK [emoji6] The other advantage is shooting with IR filters, IR wavelengths are less affected by atmospheric turbulence and can cut through poorer seeing. The disadvantage is cost, with a manual filter wheel and lrgb filters coming in at an extra £ 225 or so.

Cheers Steve - I'm using a TV 3x barlow, post filter wheel, with a little extension. Would like to push it a little further to 4800mm, which would be F20 - though conditions not quite up to this at the moment [emoji6]
