M42 - Canon 1.25" HA filter test

Stardust

Recommended Posts

I've been testing a loaned 1.25" ha filter in my modded 1100D to see if ha was worth it with a dslr. I think I'll be investing in a 2" Baader.

It did vignette and I couldn't use the flattener in my other scopes, so I think 2" is the better option.

This was 10x10mins, darks etc in my 127 refractor. I'm quite pleased as I didn't think a dslr would be able to give an image like this, so a successful  test I think

Lovely image. You can also go for an Astronomic12nm ha  clip filter if you wanted. Here is a link to one my images if need anymore convincing.http://www.astrobin.com/119716/. The only caveat is that with faint objects the sub exposure is very long, in the cold of the winter this is not such a big problem but in the summer it is more tricky.
