Nice bit of engineering (I suppose), however I cannot get past the idea that someone thought it was a good idea at the time. Just in actual practical terms it doesn't seem to make it.

Suppose the idea that a 150mm doublet and binoviewers might do much the same didn't come up.

Er,i have read that price right,offers over £1.5M...............(that is,nt 1.5 million is it?Cant be surely.Mick.

I'm guessing that his better half is complaing that they are cluttering up the lounge. He doesn't really want to sell them but can now assure her that he is advertising and, inexplicably, nobody wants them.......

They are rather fantastic though. Collectors pay more for paintings.

Interesting and well made looking piece of work. I was a large binocular telescope specialist before retiring and made several models much larger than that. I think that the upper half of the magnification range would be a bit optimistic for terrestrial use.

Whilst we are on the subject of big binos. Of the binos that you made, of which were you most proud?

Could almost be a new thread. I'm sure that many SGLers would be fascinated.

Paul.

They all had something unique about them. I suppose I should be most proud of the 8" F25 refracting binoscope as it presented the greatest challenge. The optics were folded and focal reduced to F15, it was a two man job to lift it on to the mount. Probably the best ones I made were the 6" F5 and F8 models due to their versatility, having terrestrially orientated images and 90 degree viewing position, solar filters built into the objective covers and instant owner collimation facility.

I currently have 12" and 8" reflecting binoscopes and two 4" refracting versions, one of which is permanently in Tenerife. Images of some of them are on our website.
