Narrowband

66ish% moon.

Last nights session was a bit of a calamity, despite it being a bit windy and some hazy cloud was around the seeing looked really quite good however before I even started I discovered the battery wires had again detached from the motor focuser so that reduced me to manual focus which was a shame as it was nearly impossible to focus exact with the barlows. I reverted back into mosaic mode which without a barlow was more forgiving and things were going well until the scope hit the tripod.

I really should plan things better.

Anyway this morning after a bit of a fight to get things stitched I think I have pulled an image out, I say it's 66ish% as I didn't note what it actually was. Sounds about right though.

All taken with a 6" f/8 newt, ASI120mm, Red filter and Sticthed in MS ICE, processed  in AI4.0 and Photoshop.

This one was with a x2 around the Goldschmidt area. Annotated version on the way.

Cheers!

Here is the annotated version I mentioned. I need a better Lunar Atlas to look at though as the one I was using had no info on anything above Challis/Main and de Sitter and there are a couple of craters up there.

A couple more for your consideration, I went through and picked  a couple of panels to process and finally I have a good centred pic of Montes Apenninus & Caucusus. I'm so happy I processed that one as I think it's one of my better lunar shots to date and it looks like that is the right time to shoot that are as the shadows are quite dramatic especially Pico Mons at the top of the pic.

I may annotate that one too. :D

Very nice images! I don't do imaging, so I apologise if I ask silly questions.

May I ask you whether these are single shots or if you collected a few shots and then stacked them together (maybe discarding bad ones)?

And did you use the same Barlow for all these shots or did you change it?

Many thanks and congratulations again

Thank you Michael, Piero and Alan! :)

No question is silly, in fact they are reasonable questions to ask  since I didn't fully cover it. :)

I took these with the ZWO ASI120mm camera which shoots a little video. Normally I take about 1000 frames for each video. About 20-30 seconds worth. Then I load the video into Autostakkert which is the stacking software I like to use and there is a setting in that which selects the best 20%(you can choose any percentage though) of the frames and then stacks them.

The shot of the whole moon is a mosaic, so I do what I mentioned above about 15 or 20 times but making sure I do a different area of the moon each time so once I have all the images stacked into frames I can then use a different programme to stitch the together to make the whole moon shot.

It sounds complicated but it's not really, well at least I hope that helps. :D

I only used the barlow for the one shot which was the close up in the very first post, all the others I didn't use one and it was just the camera straight in the scope.

Hi Jarrod, lovely work as usual despite your troubles.

You mention a better Lunar atlas, have tried the Virtual Moon Atlas? http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualmoon/

Cheers!

Thanks for that, I had seen that before but never actually tried it out. Will have a look now.

I was out with that as well last night...trying to get windy shots...man it was hard could barely focus! but just what was needed!

also got Rima Hadley and Hadley 'C' in your Apennine shot.

Sometimes you just have to get out despite the troubles. Was looking forward to tonight but the reality is nowhere near the forecast so I hope it changes, the wind seems to be dropping at least.

Yeah you can see loads of little details in that pic, would like to get a barlow on that region in good seeing.

Hi. Very nice images. I like the 21st Century Atlas of the Moon by Wood and Collins

Just checked that out and it looks quite good, even comes in a spiral bound edition. I might put that in the basket for the next time I order something.

No worries.

Thanks again too.

That solar group is open to anyone to share their images so most of them are from other people. I think pretty much everyone who adds a pic there are SGL members too but it is open to everybody to use if they stumble across it. :)
