First Jupiter of the season (RGB)

Hi,

I swapped out my DSO camera for my mono planetary camera and had a go at Jupiter last night.  As always, when setting up a different config, everything seems to go wrong, my focuser keeps dropping out of ASCOM control, the filter wheel decided to play up and the obs computer wouldn't keep up with the capture rate (45 frames per second).

There was a little bit of mist and I have forgotten how to easily combine RGB, Registax wouldn't do it, just locked up so it was a manual affair, so it was good to get anything.

1,000 frames in R,G & B, stacked in AS!2, sharpened with Lucy, Richardson deconvolution in Astra Image and combined in Gimp.  Post processed in Gimp.

The moon is Ganymede, I think.

Well done Robin under the conditions. You're not on your own with the first image, everyone's a bit rusty on the first one so don't worry about posting. Good to see you're posting again, I guess it's only just coming round to a reasonable enough time for you without ruining sleep? LOL

Regards

Harvey

Thanks Harvey.

I am going to have to make some changes for the next session, I will use my laptop to connect to the camera on USB as it runs much faster than the obs PC and saves on the long wait while files transfer either over my network or using a memory stick.

I also need to find a better way of doing RGB, otherwise I am going back to a colour camera. With my mono set up, to change to a 2x Barlow means taking the camera and filter wheel off and fitting the the Barlow on the other side. It isn't something I can do and keep tracking Jupiter because of a lack of space in the obs. In fact I might go back to colour for the 2x anyway, or at least to get a couple of decent ones in the bag.

Gear changes, why do we do it, it always causes problems but I know you are with me on that one?

Robin

Still I have got started, just rain and snow stopping me now.
