Light Pollution? Me too, x 10 at the moment :/

I have a major road construction a mile from my house, until 2016. The site office, lit up like Blackpool, is just a few hundred yards away, and a new industrial park has opened on a hill, blazing white lights my way. This is on top of living next to one of the biggest parcel hubs in europe. Yep, it's pretty bad here :/

So I wanted to see how much use my OSC would be at home. I usually only use it for star parties in dark skies.

I haven't finished this image yet, but thought it might cheer a few up with similar conditions? Bright targets like Orion enable shorter exposure to the ambient light gradients.

Cheers

Tim

It's a CCD, Atik 460ex to be precise;

IIRC it was 50 x 10 seconds, 50 x 30 seconds, 50 x 60 seconds, and 26 x 300 seconds, and then 10 x 60 seconds Ha (mono camera) and 7 x 20 minutes Ha.

I processed it whilst away at xmas, and didn't have access to my usual software. When I have some more of the longer data and a bit of extra narrowband I will redo this image, but I haven't touched it for a month and thought if I dont post it now, I never will :)

Cheers

Excellent result for OSC in the face of the LP enemy.

LP I laugh in it's face.

I counted 8 new flourescent streetlights within 100yards and more beyond.

A neighbours security light that flashes on and off because it's near their boiler vent.

Football club floodlights within 100yards.

200 yards away school and leisure centre floodlights on nearly all night.

Southcoast light dome extending from SE thru SW.

Can get between 5 and 10minute exposures with a 60Da.

Won't produce Olly quality images but I get reasonable images considering.

A good quality LP filter certainly helps to combat some of this LP.

Here is one of mine taken under extreme provacation, excuse the processing as thats a different matter.

Tim,

Is there any chance you can relocate? :(

Maybe in a few years time I will be in a position to move. Ironically, if it wasn't for astronomy, I could have moved a while ago, spent the money on optics and cameras instead :D

Finding somewhere darkish and still close to work might be a challenge. Some nice villages out there (but with 'nice' house prices to match!).

I like Eathorpe & Hunningham but there isn't much for under £750,000 in the area !
