Naf
Has anyone used a Canon 70D for astro-photoghraphy, if so how did it go?, clear skies.
Naf
I assume by the lack of a response that nobody has used a Canon 70D for AP,clear skies.
wxsatuser
Would assume being an upgrade to the 60D it will ok for astro but unmodded would not get so much red.
Geordie mc
Used the 50D and its good for quick images and can get some nice lunar shots if the seeing is good and steady. As stated, without modding it will have a filter that restricts a lot of the red wavelength.
Davey-T
A post somewhere about newer Canon DSLRs having more red response.Dave
GraemeC
Hi, I've been using a modified 70d for about six months. I'm very pleased with it, I am still exploring what it does and how to use it's features. I find the articulated touch screen to be the most useful, used with live view I get quite sharp focus very quickly without neck strain! I have mostly used it for wide angle shots - up to 200mm unguided -and I feel I am just about optimised now with a robust, portable imaging rig. Most recently I have bought an intervalometer which I think was tremendous value from ebay. I was previously dithering around with different software options for camera control, but the intervalometer is much easier, self contained, and accurate. The feature I thought I would be using in the 70d is the wifi control - I have proved it via the EOS remote app, and also DSLR controller. It's neat but I have reverted to the intervalometer as it isn't so dependent on a wifi signal getting through or on the battery life in my phone/ iPad.I have been very impressed with the colour response of the modded 70d, I will be posting one or two pics here once I've played with the processing a bit more, to reduce the areas of oversaturation (M42).Graeme
Naf
Thanks for the replies fella's, I have another question, what exactly is involved in getting the camera "modding"? , and will it affect the normal functions of the camera,e.g.terrestial photography? should I look at getting a dedicated DSLR body for AP only? clear skies.
Apharov
I've also been using the 70D, unmodified. I haven't used other cameras with the telescope, but so far I've been quite happy with the 70D. Apharov
Thanks Naf and SacRiker! The shots with lots of CA are taken with SW ST80, and the better ones with SW 200PDS with the Baader MPCC MkIII.I have the HEQ5, no guiding yet. A high portion of exposures go straight to the trash bin.
