Solar Imaging: Basic question

Hi,

I am using a Lunt LS60T and a DMK41 camera. I'd guess there's quite a few with a similar set up out there.

By my calculation I should have about 10% of the sensor vertical extent to spare - not a lot, but enough to give me the whole solar disk. It doesn't. And instead of being around 873 pixels (4.36mm), the solar diameter is about 1020 pixels (5.1mm).

Is the sun bigger than I thought (0.5deg)?

Or is it possible the LS60T's focal length is nearer to 580mm than 500mm?

Ping! It's the sound of a penny dropping. When you have eliminated all the possible explanations, the one that remains, even if it appears impossible, must be right.

And, of course, the one remaining is that I had obtained duff data on the chip size. Ah well...  Sorry for wasting your time.

I was still more or less hoping to find a mono camera with a reasonable frame rate, bigger imaging area and decent resolution... oh and dead cheap too.

I don't have the Lunt 60 but believe you can use a reducer plus DMK41 to get full disc. Hopefully one of the Lunt 60 folks will be along soon to advise.

I've just bought a Skyris 274M in hopes of getting a full disc with the LS60, but obviously the Sun has gone on it's holidays now.

I'll be interested to see what you can do with the new camera. Don't make it too good, I've 'invested' a lot recently and need to calm down..,
