Moving object near orion/sirius

Was looking sort of between siriuis and orion through a 30mm and saw a star sized object moving across the lense pretty fast - perhaps took 5 seconds to get from the left to the right of the picture. Tracked it for a fair distance before losing it. It may have had a slightly yellowish tint

Too much of a novice to understand what this might have been?

Do you gave Stellarium? If not try downloading it, set the time and date to when you saw the object, select the satellite option and it should show you if what you saw was indeed a satellite.

Sounds exactly like a satellite, just about everyone I have seen is an orangy colour.

The ISS tends to be much brighter.

There are a few thousand of them up there so identifing the precise one is getting close to impossible now unless it is one of the "significant" ones. With so many it is not difficult with just eyes as you have a nice wide field of view, getting one to pass through a scope is more difficult. Imagers for some reason really dislike them.
