HI,

Taken early this morning between the clouds and right through the next doors Doctors surgery security lights. Twenty subs taken but only 10 used. Hope you like it. The performance of the old lens was a real surprise.

Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX-DG Apo Macro @ F2.8 ( wide open,no masking )

Atik 428 EXC with Astronomik CLS CCD on HEQ5 Pro

10 X 240s subs with flats and bias.

I have also posted a plate solved version to show how many lovelies there are.

Regards,

A.G

Nice one AG.

I was looking at getting this lens before Christmas, there was one on MPB but I hesitated and bought the Sigma 50mm 1.4.

Bad mistake for astro work............the 50mm is/was rather naff for astro but great for normal photos.

If a good one appears on MPB, I'm in.

Like the plate solve as I just did this region and it gives me an idea what is in there.

Thanks Mike, the lens is a relic of my photography days and seems to have little CA if any, it used to perform very well for real macro work from memory. What is showing around the stars is really due to my own carelessness in masking when I applied both selective and global saturation.

Good morning Lee, the original target was indeed the M42 and the HH complex with the 428 and with a DSLR it will get the entire Orion Loop but not all the main stars in the FOV. Orion is really low for me due to the Surgery next door and then dips behind trees and a large pole with telephone wires at the back of the garden at about 1 am at the moment so to make any meaningful imaging I need to have a 3 hour clear period from around 8 pm which is a very tall story for my neck of woods. I guess that I can't be ungrateful for getting an intermittent 40 minutes or so of clear period.

Regards,

A.G
