The Crab Nebula in Context

Ha: 1x20m, 3x15m, 30fb,

RGB, 4x5m 2x5m, 4x5m binx2, 30fb

Integrationtime, 1:55hrs.

I looked at it last night with a 21mm Ethos and the 12 inch LX and believe me it didn't look anything like yours, visually a very disappointing object, in my books anyway. Interesting image, is it the Ha that changes the colours not that I have even seen them firsthand.

Thanks...visually, they never do, it takes long exposure times to bring out colors, without the h alpha component (and a bunch of processing), the colors would be weaker.

I am a BIG fan of objects "put into context" though.

So often, even the best intentioned talks at "Astro Socs"

leave the audience no idea of the size (position) of stuff...

Trouble is, you need a "different focal length" for almost everything...

Aye, this isn't really a widefield, just a more or less uncropped shot (a bit of cropping had to be, due to stacking and aligning artefacts).

That's a very nice crab image for just under 2hrs of data, very well processed too!

Ty, Martin, I'm still surprised that mono ccd goes so fast, of course, I'd like to grab a lot more data, as we all do, but here, we have to deal w/ all the usual suspects.

I hope to get eventually to the point where I can do 1 night lum, one night ha, and one night RGB, 3 images per year.
