Christmas Eve Moon

Just a swift Moon picture taken with my ED120 APO and modded Canon 1000D whilst waiting for it to get fully dark!  128 JPEG frames put through PIPP - output as a SER file - and then Autostakkert2! (just to be different).  Then Astra Image 3.0 for L-R deconvolution (again, just to be different!!).  Final tweaks in PS.  The result seems reasonable:

Lovely image. I really like pics like this, reminds me of the original man- in -the- moon pictures with out the face.

Great clarity, the topography was very pronounced, Mare Crisium, Petavius and other features clearly on show with my binoculars, displayed within a and a lovely Earthshine.

The moon looked beautiful early last evening and you've captured it well.

Just a question, not a criticism, why does the earth shine not show up in images.

The exposure for this image was 1/60 sec.  To be able to "see" earthshine you need an exposure of about 1 - 2 seconds (maybe more).  Then make a composite image of the two as the "bright" bit will be well and truly over-exposed..

Nicely done....I was also out on christmas eve, and did an hours worth of AVi's...only to find that a setting I had not tried before has ruined all 67GB of data....quite upset, but its all a learning experience. Really like this shot Roger.
