hi ive put this in the software section but no joy yet ive checked my hand controller and its v 3.09 and the motor software is 02,08,98 do I need to upgrade to ver 4 etc

have you looked on skywatcher web site under downloads.

Check if the handset you have can take an upgrade and to which version.

Although I think that the upgrade software installer does that for you now.

Will also ask why you want to upgrade it?

Sorry but the old adage of "If it ain't bust don't fix it" comes to mind.

Just unless there is something that you cannot live without I would seriously suggest you live with what you have.

If you decide to upgrade then make a check list of everything that you need, then double check that.

While perusing the TS site I see they have V3 and V4 Synscan handsets as different products.

Makes me suspect that the V3 cannot go to V4.

The handsets are different in as much as the V3 has a power socket, the V4 gets it power from the mount, slightly awkward if the mount and a pc are a long way apart....there are different versions of upgrades, the V3 brought some nice new changes, can't say what the V4 does...

When I had the cgem mount upgrades made it more accurate And had better tour facilities also if there was nothing wrong with the mount they wouldn't bring out updates to fix bugs etc just like windows

Not all upgrades works for everyone its more to do with how yours is working for you.

Hi David,

Not all updates are to fix bugs... most are for added fuctionality which may or may not be required.

Your handset is a version 3 so can only take updates for that series.

The latest handset version is V3.36. and you will need the V3.3 Synscan firmware loader to install it.

As you apear to have a DOB (flextube) goto this would require the AZ software update for the motor/goto board.

The latest version is V2.09 (AZ motor goto controller) which includes the correct software loader.

You will find this under the Motor control Firmware section on the above site.

You cannot use V4 software for either as the hardware is different.
