windy Jupiter 20th Dec

Shame about the wind, as it seemed a tad calmer tonight, which is weird because the map showed a slight jet stream. greens and blues were not great, possibly the wind killing any fine detail. But there was quite a bit of detail in the reds. Still looking at them I have another 3 or 4 to go through. Quite happy considering the wind, and what should have been a slight jet stream. Maybe things are on the up. I reckon it would have been quite a bit better with no wind, or a short tube, the long F6.3 Newt catching the wind badly.

None the less looks to me like the most fine detail ive captured so far.

I can tell the conditions were better for you Neil, there's some finer detail starting to pop here. Shame about the windy conditions...I had the same here but completely clouded out as well. It's been a poor couple of months by and large. Looking through some of my runs from last year really shows how bad as well. I really hope things improve!!

Just goes to Show Pete, Elevation Is only half the story. I would rather have good seeing at 40 degrees, than poor at 52. Yet that's mostly what we are getting. You will pull off a stunner soon, Pete. your imaging train, knowledge and location. Are a given, at some point I am sure you will. I was sliding around in the mud out there last night, things we do for the love of astronomy

Looking good Neil. Improved conditions and you are probably now "getting your eye in" after some time away from planetary processing like the rest of us. Another Jupiter and another Saturn up there to keep us going all year round would be handy!!!

Cheers Guys at least its going in the right direction, away from that horrible complete blur period. It gives me a little hope. Still working on some, I took quite a bit that is taking forever to process.

Have a great Christmas Everyone. Hope you all have a great holiday period.

Hi Neil,

I agree it's been a real frustration so far this opposition. I have been unable to get fine collimation, just cant make out the detail in a fuzzy star.

Here is my best from the 20th Dec. Image was jumping all over the chip, never still for a moment. Also fuzzing in and out of focus.

Let's hope Santa brings some decent seeing.

regards

Peter
