Orion , down to Minitaka.

Recommended Posts

Came across this ,

http://www.bobhogeveen.nl/doubles/dubb_ori.htm

Had another look at Meissa , lovely group in Cr69. Then down to

Σ700 a 4.9" binary near equal pair.

Eta Orionis next and at x200 a split of 1.7". Wind and light sky were challenging.

Σ712 showed a most delicate companion.

Psi2 showed transient glimpses of a shy secondary at 2.9".

31 Orionis gave another most delicate companion.

32 Orionis I found a bit challenging at 1.2", wider and better was

33 Orionis at 1.9".

Minitaka showed a good field at x50 with a wide , but gorgeous companion.

Jupiter's moons were dancing and that was it before the thick clouds from the west rolled in.

Orion has loads on offer, kept sneaking back to the Trapezium and sigma.

Hoping for a few more

Clear skies,

Very interesting and useful post as ever Nick

Orion is such a rich constellation. I've re-discovered Alnitak as a lovely double during recent sessions. It's one I'm sure I've observed in the past but not for quite a long time. I dimly recall just about managing to split 32 Orionis when I had a 6" F/8 refractor a couple of years back but it's certainly due a re-match with my ED120 refractor now !

I spent some time with Alnitak and 32 Ori last night with my Mak. Both just about split, but very difficult, although the seeing wasn't the best.

Orion is certainly a spectacular constellation for doubles - well done Nick (again)!
