DaveS
Been in-and-out since I came back home about 10.30. Got my rig collecting [sII] subs of M42, but have my bins for a bit of visual.Another incentive to get a second mount.
PhotoGav
I'm in and out... Imaging, so not standing around freezing my extremities so much. Though it's not that cold out there really....!It is a wonderful clear dark sky for once.Hope you are enjoying the heavens despite your chilly toes! PhotoGav
Excellent! Look forward to seeing the results. Just been out to flip, focus and freeze! Sat in the deck chair for a while just staring out into space. One of my most favourite pastimes!

DaveS
I've just come in. Completed 12 x 10 min [sII] subs of M42 and run 12 x 30 sec subs for the core.Just in time actually as cloud has started to come in and everything was dripping wet with dew. Stu
Just warming up with a cup of tea. Calling it a night now. Not so cold but must be soft, changed out of my shorts and actually put some socks and shoes on ;-).Lovely and clear all evening, still going strong. Transparency is pretty good, seeing not bad either. Managed to spot M1 in the 85mm from the garden so doing ok.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ruud
I'm back in, already drinking a second cup of hot cocoa. It's nine degrees outside, but there's a lot of wind so I still got cold. There are some clouds around, but between them the sky is very transparent. The seeing is mostly good for low magnification so I did some sweeping along the Milky Way. Got some nice views too!Clear skies to all
estwing
Far too windy here
Thom
Good to see so many people out, with varying degrees of success. Clear skies to those that didn't get any.Anyone got any advice on keeping feet warm please? Thermal socks weren't cutting it last night!
stevend
Anyone got any advice on keeping feet warm please? Thermal socks weren't cutting it last night!I was out last night, great clear skies, using both scope and binos. Here is a mountainbike night rider tip: put a plastic bag (eg a sandwich bag) on each sock before putting your shoes on. It helps protect your socks (and ultimately your feet) from your cold shoes.P.S Also make sure your footwear is not too tight.
Thom
Thank you kindly. I suffered badly from cold feet on my road bike last year until a friend told me not to over tighten my shoes. Amazing how a little thing makes a big difference!I'll definitely try the bag trick.Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

It never occurred to me before, but keeping the blood warm in your legs helps keep your feet warm too :-)Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DaveS
Having looked at my subs I see big blobby stars, even though I took care with focusing. I think my polar alignment was also a bit further off than normal. Bother. On top of that it transpires that my nocturnal activities disturbed my (elderly) neighbour. something I shall have to watch in future.Bother againThis unmitigated horror is the result of stacking 12 x 10 min [sII] subs of M42 binned 1x1. Stacked and two stretches in AA5
Thom
Ah, but that is a great start! As for the neighbour - earplugs for Xmas?
DaveS
I may swap my filters over, get first-light with my Astrodons.I also need more Ha and [OIII] data to do an effective HST image.
ollypenrice
Perfectly clear for the fifth successive night but, bizzarely, it isn't even cold. It can be in the minus teens here at this time of year/night but it isn't even below zero and by day you can sit out in a T shirt at noon. Pretty strange but ain't complainin'! Bit tired though... OllyPS Tom and I broke our personal best for one night with over 18 hours data captured on one image in one night using three scopes.
Thom
Out again tonight. Jupiter the target for the second night. Got better views of it'll thru QG Video but the program keeps freezing. It's never easy is it? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
DaveS
Nope, if it was easy everyone'd be doing it My next session will probably be devoted to getting my polar alignment and guiding sorted, maybe trying out the Astrodons too.
