Night-time recce is highly recommended, as Laser has already mentioned.

Didn't do it on the home I currently live in, as I relied on friends' reports of the area, with regard to light pollution at night. Boy, weren't they wrong! However, everything else checks out for us and there is ALWAYS compromise when finding a new home, unless you own a few million squids...  :D

All the best with this current property - that garden has tons of potential, with a bit of screening at the bottom.

Low fences could indicate good relationships with the neighbours.....Mine were 6ft high before we moved...  :D

My only issue with the land across the way is its status - is it development land? You don't want to move in and find plans for a 300 house estate.......

Jules that looks pretty good for observing the east/west horizons. But as Sam said you need to do a recce to see the night time viewing. I have quite a long garden and I use black groundsheets on a washing line to act as a black out curtain. When not in use they are tied back behind my garden shed. Perhaps you could do a similar arrangement.

Jules wish you well with your decision.

Good horizon, a few buildings (therefore lights....) in view- but all sites are a compromise. As long as it's an improvement on your current garden it should be worthwhile.

Can you do a night time recce?

It should be a huge improvement on my current garden.................as i dont have one at this place im in, my big worry is will i be able to afford it if i like it, have bought extra euro tickets for tonight.................need some luck lol

Go for it- I can picture that shed at the end of the garden with a sliding roof already.......

It as they say has potential, looks a bit 'open' at the back which with expensive astro gear might be an issue of course being open means more of the sky :)

As for the price you can always put in a cheeky offer. If your in a good position ie. No chain then it's worth being cheeky if you like it

Hope it works out for you, Jules.   :)

Had a viewing, lets just say the garden is the best feature, i may put in an offer but the house needs a lot of work and as always i feel i can do better for my hard earned money

Walk away ! Every house we've moved into has had rubbish owners. We've ploughed in money for windows, kitchens, repairs and then moved on to start again. This time the house wasn't bad, apart from the two Staffies who lived upstairs and ate the skirting. The garden was a horror story, hadn't been touched for 6 years.

If you love the position, then put in a silly low offer. Remember, although it's tempting, you can't live in the garden.

Ensure the neighbours are ok. Ours are wonderful on one side and nuts on the other. Try knocking on the door and asking what it's like to live there and did the previous owner keep big bad dogs.

Oh ,to have enough money to live detached, peaceful and away from light pollution. Must check the annual lottery ticket,

Nick.

If it has a flushing toilet it is surprising what a good clean with a pair of rubber gloves can do and some bargain hunting and a little diy to refresh the bits that need it.

Where the expense can hurt is the building like the roof or pointing, cracks etc.

Nick makes a great point about the neighbours, you can't change them or clean with rubber gloves.

If it's on Rightmove or Zoopla there should be a map. I know the "pin" doesn't point to the house itself, but in general I've been able to work out which one it is from the photos. Then NSEW just follow the map directions. I used it a lot when I was house-hunting to avoid looking at houses with gardens that had bad aspects.

Still took a compass with me though.
