Magnet in space

Recommended Posts

I have moved it to the Physics, Space Science and Theories forum.

Yes a magnet will work in space and will actual create its own magnetic field. A magnetic compass does not work in the absence of a magnetic field other than its own (i.e. it will have no directional preference). There are plenty of planets (and indeed stars) that have magnetic fields, and magnetic compasses  would align to those.
