nightfisher
I am plotting and scheming with an idea to motor drive my skytee mount, this might not go any where, but what i have in mind is a couple of the cheap EQ1 type units. At this point i must stress at this point all i want to do is be able to track for 10 to 20 seconds for AVI capture with my 150 Maksutov, so first thing is will this work, and how to mount these units with very limited tools

nightfisher
Cheers, but john turned his skytee into a goto mount, all im after is a basic limited tracking drive
spaceboy
Should be easy enough mate. Are you planning to use the motors in astroboot ? Nice and cheap mod if so.

spaceboy
I can't see why it wouldn't work ?? Obviously a scope would have to be perfectly balanced to reduce the strain on the motor. This may become an issue when your over the center of balance as it is for most AZ mounts. You could do some sort of balancing arm like http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/187619-visual-mount-for-ed80/#entry1954725
nightfisher
Im thinking i might get a motor and try it, thing is i need a motor before i can try to see how to fit it
nightfisher
I have had a lot of thought on this and im pleased to say i have ordered a motor, this project looks like its going to happen
nightfisher
I only managed to get one motor, but im pleased to say i have sourced the second one, both the same with north south switch and variable speed, mounting these units now looks a lot more simple than i first thought, i will post my results with pictures when the job is done

nightfisher
This project has just crashed............my supplier has refunded me as they dont have any stock, so i need to rethink the motors to use for this
Stu
Jules, a crazy thought but have you considered putting the SkyTee on some sort of simple Wedge? You could then do a very rough 'polar align' and would only need to power one axis, so would only need one motor.....Any good?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nightfisher
Nice idea Stu, but takes away from my objective, the idea is to have a heavy duty simple alt az tracking mount that will give up to 20-30 seconds tracking for luna avi, i can still source the same motors but at double the price, however if i do this mod and it works how i want, it means i will only ever need the one mount
nightfisher
I have just added flexi cables to the skytee, this will make it much nicer to use
