brake disc size for heq5

I am thinking a pier is now appropriate and have seen the use of brake discs as the pier top which to my eye is both asthetically pleasing and robust/functional.

I like the idea of using 2 brake discs. 1 mounted upside down and pushed into the concrete pillar top and the other then mounted via bolts to enable levelling and attaching the mount head to (if that makes any sense at all).

So what brake discs are best. I don't want to spend a fortune.

Also what bolts are suggested to include length.

Also what do people use to get the little bit which the mount pushes against when you adjust the azimuth for polar alignment.

Finally the large pipe into which the concrete is poured. How far into the ground is this set and what do people cover it with to make it look better than some bright orange underground pipe.

Thanks.

For the heq5 that you've got, I'm sure a brake disc with a 60/62mm centre hole is the one most used for a diy pier.

Also for the azimuth polar alignment post you can use a good quality M8 bolt :)

I'm assuming your thinking of using some underground soil pipe? The heq5 will need a substantial pier to put it on (I have the same mount). At least 8" diameter pipe really, soil pipe is usually 4"-6".

To cover the orange pipe you could get some decking and make a box to slide over it?
