Jupiter With Two Moons 25/11/2014

Jupiter with two of its moons; Europa furthest away followed by Io which had just passed in front of the planet on 25/11/2014. This frame was taken from a short test animation of Jupiter's moons made in preparation for a longer sequence to be done when we finally get a clear night. Unfortunately the test sequence was spoiled by some unwelcome cloud but there were some nice frames before the weather turned.

Yes that's the 127 Mak in action with the ZWO ASI120MC and a x2 Barlow. It's a tiny bit over exposed because I wanted the moons to come out clearly for the animation and the Barlow does seem to cut out a fair bit of light.

Here is an animated gif of the sequence I was trying to create from which the frame I posted came from. It's 14 frames long with one frame in the middle somewhat spoiled by cloud. Each frame was made from a video of 1000 frames at intervals of 5 minutes with the best 50% processed in Registax.

Great images. The animation also nicely illustrates the field rotation we get with our Alt-Az mounted scopes.

Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone. This was a first attempt at a planetary animation just to work out what to do. I'm really looking forward to a long, clear night now to try and capture as much as I can
