Connect SW Powertank to EQ3-2 Dual Motors

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of getting a Skywatcher 7ah power tank to power my EQ3-2 dual motor drive but need some advice on how to do this. I've seen this from FLO which seems like it will do the job, can you guys tell me if this is OK or if there is another method? Cheers.

It won't work unless the powertank has a suitable 6 volt output. The dual axis motors use 6 volts whereas the Synscan system uses 12 volts..

I'm not sure, this is the spec for the power tank...

it says its got DC 3, 6, 9V output jack. Would that work?

If not, any other alternatives?

If you buy the bits and post them to me I will happily solder up the lead and heatshrink it for you - no charge - just the postage.

PM me for address if you want me to make it for you.

Wow that's very generous of you. What would I need to send you just the cable from FLO and the switch regulator you showed me?

I think the latest version has usb power ports rather than the DC outlets. http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/astronomical_accessories-power_tanks/sky_watcher_7ah_rechargeable_power_tank.html

Yes - and your return address !!!!!   ;-)

And a note of where you want the regulator to go - battery end/device end/middle etc.

Just PM me for my address.

The older version had the multiple voltage outputs. Before buying have a read through the posts in the forum as most people including myself that bought the power tanks have come to grief with these sooner or later as the battery fails. They are not really up to the  job if you intend to use the mount for a long observing or imaging session.
