I thought I'd create a chatter thread.. early days yet :)

Decided to have my spectroscope fully complete this time.. last SGL it was a rush job to get the wood done and flocked.. but this time I want it fully mountable and usable!

Didn't realise they clashed this year....  Oh well I have  bought the kit I was after anyway so probably a good thing...

Peter...

Yes, I received my registration email for the show a few days ago. To be honest, I'd rather it was a week later, but having said that, it'll be nice not to dash off on the Sunday for a change.

I'm looking forward to my first star party. 2 questions though.

1) Is there a map/drawing of the pitch layout, I've seen one but can't find it again.

2) What happens at these things, is there a schedule yet?

Fear not - normally the plan of things is that the booking are opened, lots of discussions about jaffa cakes and attempting to deceive the rain gods, then a little nearer the time (normally about a 3-4 weeks) things start to appear. There's normally some daytime activities.. and informal wanderings.

There's already a pitch listing - that with the pitch map on the lucksall website should be a good starter :)

Their website is here: http://www.lucksallpark.co.uk and their site plan here: http://www.lucksallpark.co.uk/our-facilities/site-plan/

As its my first SGL star party I though ask a few questions....

1. What happens if its cloudy/wet? Is there a gazebo or building we all gather under to chat or hide in the tents until the rain gods forgive us?

2. What happens during daytime? Apart from the solar eclipse, are there events/lectures/meets etc?

3. I know bright lights/noise is not permitted after a certain time but is there anything else not permitted...i.e. Alcohol?

4. What happens at meal times? Is there a dining area on the campsite or a take away nearby (dont know the area)

Thank you

Hey Jake

1) Whatever you want to do really, there is (or has been in the past) a main gazebo where people go and have a chat.

2) Again your entertainment is your own, theres usually a few solar scopes on site that people bring & usually they'll let you have a look through. Theres usally a post go around that'll ask people what they'd like to learn about and anyone who'd fancy doing the tutorials

3) Red light only after dark & noise isn't really an issue on the site anyway although i wouldn't take that as "Play AC/DC as loud as you can". Alcohol is as far as im concearned an essential item, im on holiday i intent to kick back. The cafe also sells alcohol so if you fancy a few beers.....

4) Theres a cafe on site where you can get breakfast and meals, i would imagine the majority of people cook for themselves. Theres a shop on site for all the essentials as well. No take away that i know of, at least not in walking distance.

The whole event is pretty relaxed, everyones really friendly & ready to answer any questions you can think off, this is my 3rd year on the spin and i love it
