Nebulosity to Photoshop

Recommended Posts

Bit of a numpty question here, but am trying to get from my final stacked FITS file in Nebulosity and then open that in Photoshop for final post processing. Am using the latest version of PS here too

I want to preserve as much data as possible in the move and keep with the maximum bit depth that I can.  Looking in Neb can only see that is saves as TIFF and when I open these in PS am not seeing any histogram and can't alter the curves.

I have had a quick look at FITS Liberator, but can't see how this can output to PS.  Had a look at installing the earlier non stand alone version and this still does not recognise FITS as a valid image format.

Has anyone had any success in installing the plugin into the latest version of PS and if so, can you please let me know how you did it as I am going proper nuts trying to work out how to do it here.

Cheers in advance

I use Nebulosity for stacking then PhotoShop CS3 for post processing.  I use the Nebulosity batch conversion function to convert the final FITS file to TIFF (I guess save as 16 bit TIFF will probably do the same thing).

So not sure why you cannot work with the TIFF files from Nebulosity.  Some suggestions (I'm assuming the latest PS version works the same as the CS3 version, and I apologise if this sounds like I'm 'teaching granny to suck eggs'):

1. Can you see the histogram in Photoshop? - if not try using the Window menu and select histogram

2. The Levels function can be accessed by CTRL + L or from the menu Image - Adjustments - Levels

3. The Curves function can be accessed by CTRL + M or from the menu Image - Adjustments - Curves

Hi all

Thanks for the replies.

Was not aware there was a batch conversion facility in Nebs......doh.

I did try saving as 16bit TIFF and opening in PS and could see the histogram and alter the curves and levels....it's just a shame my data is pants now

WOuld be nice to be able to work in 32bits from there but guess I will hafve to open the heavily abused wallet for some more software if I want to be able to do that.....when will it end......

  • 4 months later...

if you are using nebulosity, you can save them as fit files then stretch them in fits liberator which in turn save them as tiff files then you can open them up in Ps

you can stretch the single shot in fits L or you can save the colour components in the file menu in nebulosity then stretch them in fits L and then restack them in Ps if you search for fits Liberator on youtube there are are a couple of vids on there
