Short Notice: Observing Session _ Sun. 23rd

Hi Folks,

The forecast for tomorrow night looks great, so I am proposing a short notice meet at our Blaenavon site. I realise some of you may have other plans and may not be able to attend, but the rare opportunity for a cloudless night on the New Moon is presenting itself at the moment; it's worth considering.

Who's interested ?

Edit: I'll post an update tomorrow afternoon about 3:00 pm.

What time were you thinking of getting there guys? I have plans (plans have been made for me) tomorrow afternoon and early evening. I'm working Monday at 8am but may still be able to make it for about 8 or 9 tomorrow night for a couple of hours if people are still about. All depends whether you were planning a later one or not.

All Forecast's look good. Tonight's short notice Observing session is a  " GO ".

It appears the temps will be just above dew point with Seeing & Transparency in the 8 out of 10 range.

Sounds just about perfect for a Moonless night.

If you haven't been to the site before, or interested in stopping by tonight, the coordinates are.......

+51* 47' 25.57"  by  -3* 4' 10.74"

The site is located next to the Radio Towers just North East of the  B4248  &  B4246  junction.

Hope the evening went well. I managed a few hours in the back garden. Viewing wasn't excellent, but managed to enjoy a few old favourites all the same. Although I couldn't make it tonight, these short notice evenings are definitely a good idea. Fingers crossed for next Friday.

Has been a very good night, both at the Blaenavon site and at home. I left Blaenavon earlier than expected as dew became an issue. The sky was great upon returning home, so spent the the rest of the evening in the treacherous back garden. Its been the best Observing night for me this year.

Yeah Tony,  I think a short notice session may be the way to go, preferably on a Friday or Saturday close to the New Moon. Only 5 of us were able to attend last night. Monday morning work commitments may have prevented others from attending.

5 is not a bad number at short notice for a Sunday Mike in my opinion - I think the important thing in these situations is no ones up there on their own and if you comit to it at short

notice you should probably make the effort - safety in numbers being number one priority

Good point regarding safety Steve. I went on one occasion so Mike wasn't alone. We had a good time despite it was only us two.

I can't remember what the event was. Left at dawn if I remember correctly. :icon_scratch:

My memory is about the same Tony,  :icon_scratch:  but it was until the early hours.

It was definitely after dawn Mike. I think it was a transit event, that was spoilt by fog on the SE horizon.

I'll have to look back through the threads to see when it was. I'm having to many senior moments.

Great to catch up last night but my god it was cold !!!

Get ya' a tractor suit and you'll be warm as toast Paul.

When I got home, my Wife fired up the kettle, made me a cuppa, filled my hot water bottle, booted me out to the garden, and then went back to watching her program; we were both happy.
