The FLO weather forecast website is excellent and even the BBC can get it right from time to time but local weather can be very fickle and clear patches missed by inevitable the 'big picture' approach by the aforementioned and other weather forecasts.

Can anyone recommend any real-time good satellite picture websites that can be used for spotting such clear sky opportunities over the UK, which might be present among otherwise less favourable weather forecasts?

I use the Met Office Satellite Infrared radar maps. It updates every 15 minutes and covers the last 3 hours of observations. You can play through the sequence, which show you in which direction and how fast the clouds are moving. I use it to 'predict' if it is worth setting the scope up for a session.

HTH.
