Hello from Leeds

Hello all,

I'm Tony from north Leeds (I'm also known as Tonk in my local caving club as someone couldn't type!). I'm a bit of an on/off astronomer since I was a teenager. Just getting back into it after 4 years doing other stuff. OK I've just bought a new scope - arrived in October and its been cloudy/raining ever since (sorry people in North Yorkshire).

One thing I will be asking folks when it stops raining is how to laser collimate a fast Newtonian scope when you eyesight is not up seeing a laser spot as a spot anymore - that's a tough question !!! I'll look around here on SGL to see where you are supposed to ask questions like that.

Anyway clear skies to you all and happy observing.

Thanks O-RICH - I shout the same at Leeds-Bradford airport. I live far too close to it. My fix for that is a caravan out in the sticks near Ripon - its dark there except for Harrogate and York to the south - do us a favour ..... :)

I spent a lot of time growing in Meanwood and Moortown, and then 3 years in Headingley for University. Yeadon airport used to [removed word] me off, especially because i was doing a music course.  I wonder if anyone has taken a scope on top of the moor - that would be both really cool and terrifying at the same time...

Hi Chris - you near Grantley/Kirby Malzeard?   I've noticed the sky glow is going from orange to a whiter colour to the east over the last year - so that's Ripon changing the lights! Not sure if that's good or bad really

Nice to meet all the N Yorks folks! (Hi Mike) And no one has complained about my rain-maker scope - phew! - (just the lights ;)
