Creating a setting circle for a Dobsonian

Recommended Posts

I read a post on this forum where someone referred to another post on here that gave some pointers about creating a setting circle for a Dob, and then using a digital level gauge on the OTA, and then using Stellarium to find objects in the sky.  (1) Could someone post a link to that post on here?  (2) Is it very hard to create this, and is it fairly accurate?  I could see how this would be a great way to save a couple hundred dollars on a telescope (not getting the Push-To feature).

theres plenty of them on the web here is one http://uncle-rods.blogspot.co.uk/2009/08/digital-setting-circles-on-cheap.html

this maybe useful http://astrotips.com/software/making-setting-circles

they are not as accurate as a proper push to but  they do  get you pretty close the trick if you have missed the target is to do a slow spiral  out till your chosen target comes into view. If you make them properly you never miss by much
