BST's for a Dob...

The Starguiders work well at f/5 and I have read of people saying they are good at F/4.5.

Faster then that I have no idea.

As you have a 10" (250mm) I would say it is faster then f/5 but within the reported ratio's.

I rounded it up to F5. The stats work out to F4.9. This side of xmas though is a no no to me spending cash lol. But its my bday in the first week of january so im planning ahead already. But thanks for advice and info ronin.

All eyepieces work in all scopes assuming they fit in the focuser. Incrementally more expensive options offer an increasingly wider apparent field which is aesthetically better. A used televue plossl offers premium quailty in a 50 degree apparent field for the same price as a bst. I would pick the latter every time.

I have the ED 5mm,8mm,15mm and all work fine with my F4 10" Quattro.

The 25mm does not however.

What problem did you have with the 25mm? I'm debating getting one for my F5 Flexitube 130P, but I've seen a few people say that the 25mm is the weak link in the BST range.

Ive not heard that about the 25mm. But i was going to start at 8mm n work up the range and then 2x barlow to achieve higher mags!!! Ive read on here though that a 32mm panaview is a great low power EP. But it would be nice to eventually get the full set off BST's. But that wish also depends on if they are good on DSO's or just for lunar and planetary?

Well, the 18mm BST I have was used on the Moon and a few DSO the last time I observed just before the First Quarter Moon on 30th October.

Even at x36 on my Flexitube 130P, the Moon just looked so detailed. And I had a good view of M34 near the zenith despite the First Quarter Moon and hazy conditions, albeit the haze was worst nearer the horizon (could see NGC1981 north of M42, but  not M42 itself!).

Thanka for all the info! I do believe that my mind is made up in going for the full set of BST's. Can any one suggest a decent barlow? Skys the limit on e@#y have got a 2x ED for £44.99... bargain i thought!?!

The BSTs are fully refundable, Alan makes it a point that if their not suitable for your needs / requirements, you can refund them, you pay for return postage, its not much! so try a few at a time, compare, and return what you dont like. I also recommend this barlow  http://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-eyepieces/skywatcher-deluxe-2x-barlow.html

Yes....I forgot to add, the laws have changed, in our favour. Its called the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Still........If you buy something from the High Street, unless its faulty, there can be issues getting your money back, but online sellers now have to abide by the new regulations, even if you just want to change your mind. So  where folk say only buy from a reputable dealer ( we all have them nearby don't we!) if its a High street retailer, air on the cautious side if you want to change your mind and want your money back?. Online, you should be covered by the new rules!

I still think old school and the problems I've had trying to get refunds in the past? Thats why I have often mentioned that the BST's are returnable.   I wonder how many  online retailers declare this up front, its just satisfying to know in advance.

I had the Revelation 2.5x. Its also good quality, however I found 2.5x  was maybe just a little too much for my liking, so on advice went for  the  skywatcher deluxe 2.0 x . Also the removal of this lens cell,  fitted directly to the eyepiece offers about 1.5 x  factor. This suits me just fine.

Cheers to you all for all the advice. Its good to know aswell about that new law. Like you said charic it does tip thibgs in our favour. I have had a look at both the SW and Revalation barlows and thanks for the info on them. Ive got loads off time to decide on it though because a barlow will be the last accessorie that i buy.
