Celestron Advanced VX Mount Or HEQ5

Recommended Posts

I have a heq5 syntrek and an avx. Both are quite good imaging mounts for their price and payload range :)  I wouldn't like to say whether one was especially better than the other. I've not had the avx all that long but haven't had any problems with it. It can track well with a 400mm frac (180s).

I suppose after using an eq5 the heq5 pro would seem more familiar. The avx doesn't support eqmod, of course. I use pulse guiding with both mounts.

I have both, but tend to use the avx more. Have used a 600mm frac with 10 minute guides with no issues. The tripod is nicer, but it is noisier slewing.

Yeah, it is noisier when fast slewing! Presumably because it has motors with encoders. I believe there are possibilities for optimising the slewing though I've never tried.
