conspicuity
Hi!Finally, in old age, I have the time to pursue astronomy. Naturally, I am in a hurry and struggle with a. the light pollution and weather in England; b. the balance between investment and expertise. Expect some novice questions in due course.... Chinapig
A very warm welcome to this amazing Lounge. The closer I get to retirement - only a few months away now - the more I'm enjoying astronomy, and yes, I undertand what you mean by hurry! I hope you enjoy it to the max, and there are plenty of helpful and knowledgeable people on here for info and advice. There are probably a few astronomy groups and societies within striking distance, where you would find friendly advide and the chance to try out various bits of kit before deciding what to buy.You can't do much about the weather, but to maximise the opportunities of a clear spell, it's worth considering daytime solar viewing as well as night-time celestial, then you're not so dependent on the cloudless gaps arriving after dark. It might also be worth exploring the Video Astronomy section of this forum, as watching celestial targets on a screen is easy on the eye, and can help cut through light pollution quite effectively.Best of luck, and have fun!CheersSimon

conspicuity
Thank you all. That's quite a welcome!Chinapig, thanks for the suggestion. I have, indeed, discovered the delights of solar viewing and I'm getting fairly slick at setting up quickly to grab those fleeting opportunities during the day. Next step: reliably capturing images...Thanks again.
