Is this a good deal? (Canon EOS 100D + lens + bits)

I've been after a Canon EOS 100D for a while and just spotted this package on Currys Website (I'm not a fan of Currys but it looks like too good a deal to miss - don't suppose the lenses are anything special but then again i'm not an expert photographer !l)

I want the camera mainly for daytime stuff to learn a bit of photography and then take a few night sky shots from a tripod as I only have a dob at the moment so don't really want to buy a modded DSLR yet (I suppose I can always get it modded at a later date)

This is the link: here

I've not held it in my hand but from what ive read and seen its a bit smaller than most DSLRs (probably similar size to my Nikon Coolpix P80)

I have also considered the 700D which I think does have the flip screen and isnt that much more expensive - is that a better choice? Bearing in mind it will mostly be used for daytime photography? (I'm not fussed about video, just stills)

Can the 700D be modified at a later date to dual use daytjme/AP like the 100d can?

Thanks

The camera with kit lens can be had for £360

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/Canon/Canon-Digital-SLRs/Canon-EOS-100D-With-18-55mm-III-Lens

the 75-300 for £97

so by the time you've added in the bag and tripod, it does seem to be a good price. I'd suggest actually trying it in your hand, you may find the 100d is rather too small for a comfortable hold.

As Happy-Kat said if you are at any point going to try and focus on the heavens especially at a strange angle you need the flip out screen and the live view x10 function. It's worth its weight in Gold. My 600D does this so I imagine the 700D will too?

I can manage without a flip out screen for night use on a tripod as I connect my 1100d to my Android KitKat tablet and run dslr dashboard and see live view on the 7inch tablet screen.

Also if you get serious into it then you might be connecting a laptop and then you have an even bigger screen and tools to help with focusing.

The offer runs until February I think it was (but maybe subject to stock I didn't see best to check) so why not do some research even just using this site's search function and read reviews of using it to help in your decision making.

Great site that - the 700D is £512 plus £50 cashback at Jessops and with 2.5% cashback at Quidco I reckon I'll go for the 700D..... now, where's the credit card....

I've heard it's not that good in low light conditions. I was thinking about the 100d myself until I saw an offer Argos are currently doing for the canon eos m at £199!! My came with the new firmware, 18-55mm lens and speedlite flash - bargain!

Whilst looking for a DSLR, I posted some questions on here about the 100D, 450D,1000D, 1100D, 600D, 650D and 700D.

All had their pluses and minuses, but the 700D seemed to come out on top for a crop sensor DSLR + 18-55mm IS STM11

So far I'm delighted with it. Flip touch screen, and a decent size for my mitts. Downside is that PS CC doesn't seem to like CR2 Raw, but that is a PS4 11.00 version.

PS CS 2 dos not like the CR2 raws form my 1100d but if I select the image in  canon DPP and go to tools, send to photoshop, it automatically changes the file to a TIFF and then opens on Phoroshop.  might be the Same for you on CS4

The 700D with 18-55 lens was £512.05 cheapest on camerapricebuster yesterday...

However, I noticed that amazon (themselves not a 3rd party seller) were selling it at £539, so I used Amazon's "report a cheaper price elsewhere" option on the item web page and hey presto today the price has reduced tp £499 (plus £50 cashback) !

I'm claiming all credit for getting the price down it's probably just coincidence ...

Cool, I get the feeling that Canon prices are linked to Russian oil futures, every time I look they are either up or down, to the point that one almost would never buy one.

700D + Lens can be had for the £480 mark on Amazon.

You should try looking on Euro versions of those popular auction sites, it's a nightmare for the £ conscious when factoring in exchange rates and delivery.

Camera from London England

Lens from Inverness Scotland.

Ball Head from Portsmouth England.

Lens from Central Brittany France.

Grip from Dortmund Germany.

Dovetail from Lorient South Brittany France.

If budget will allow, I would be tempted to upgrade from the stock budget end canon lenses.

I upgraded from the stock canon 70-300 to the Tamron 70-300mm SP Di VC USD

The difference in image quality between the Tamron and the stock Canon is astronomical   in terms of sharpness and lack of CA

Maybe the seller will come up with a bespoke bundle for you

Santa just keeps on giving.... i must have been really good this year

Amazon are now offering 40% off Adobe Elements when you buy the camera too... as well as the Canon £50 cashback offer + £50 off the "Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon/Canon" ..

Now, if only they would bundle a 16" dob with the camera....
