First ever M42 and a question.

Here is my first imaging attempt at M42 - I only saw this for the first time through a scope at Kelling a few weeks ago. It's epic!

My images are certainly getting better, but can anyone tell me what has happened with the main star here? It seems to have taken on an uncontrollable, blooming mind of it's own. Any advice on handling it?

ED80, HEQ5, ST80 guiding. Modded canon 450D. 13 x 10 min subs and 15 1 min subs to try and get the core. First time in doing different exposure lengths and blending - didn't go brilliantly.

Thanks for looking.
