cotterless45
Cetus is a huge , but faint constellation. From here it trips it's watery way along the south, accompanied by Aries,Pisces and Aquarius. It's bad from here due to town lights. The big circle is the head and the smaller easier is the head holding α (Menkar). This is red giant with a binocular optical companion. Adjacent γ ( Kaffaljidhma) is a too bright binary yellow glaring out the blue secondary.Mira is worth catching as the base variable red giant.12 Ceti is quite testing, I couldn't get the yellow/blue due to the light sky. There is an 11.6" split between the +6 and 10.8".β734 is most delicate at x120.10.8" separates +5.6 and +9.6.26 Ceti showed by averted vision, yellow with a shy blue.Σ 186 , a pair of eyes, separated by 1", not difficult, caught at x218, +6.8 here.66 Ceti , a shy secondary at x60. Another pair atΣ 280, this being a 3" split.ν Ceti, I found quite steady and still , yellow / blue.Other notables here,42 Ceti 1.6" split at x218.95 Ceti at 1.2", had a good go, but no success. An overlooked constellation, but some useful hunting here,Nick. chiltonstar
You put us to shame with your diligence!I'll look at some of these gems when the sky clears (Xmas?) and the seeing improves.Chris
