The Kindle software has to be free, that is so that Amazon can then sell you other books they have (actually you have a licence to read it not the book), there is now a record that you like Astro related items. Also for adverts and offers.

I am not sure how I feel about Amazon (and Google, Ebay etc, etc) and their attempts to take over me, my life and (eventually) the world  

They all seem to have progressed from eminently sensible and useful tools to commercial giants determined to "trap me" into their web
