quick finder location?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Any advice on best position for the quick finder? I went with this set up last night and seemed o.k. But any one got experience of a better location before I fix permanently?

Last nights viewing was good and bad. Plus side I saw m31 for the first time. Quite a bright centre with a misty cloud around it. I'm also pretty sure for the first time I could look up and see the milky way band across the sky.

The down side was I didn't see much else. Didn't have the finder scope aligned properly and struggled with polar alignment. I've just aligned the finder on a distant tree top and bird! So hoping for better tonight.

Cheers

Craig

Hi

Yeah got the sticky pads but just testing out first. . The position seems good so think I'll go with it.

Fixing the spare Foot on the other side of the tube is a good idea! Think I'll go with that.

Think the raci is going to be useful, but the quick finder was great last night, gets you to the right spot in the sky. . Think the raci will need more practice too, surprised how many stars are visible in it!

Looks good to me. if using an EQ mount it might be an idea to have two feet en either side of the tube?

Been looking at this. . . And moving the scope around both axis in general. . Does there come a point when I need to twist the tube in the rings to bring the ep back to a useable position and hence the suggestion of a mounting on the other side?

Seems when facing north, and moving on the ra axis to the eastern horizon the ep ends up on the bottom of the tube and would be no use??

I am not too familiar with EQ mounts as I am solely visual and as such much prefer alt-azimuth mounts like dobsonians and my Giro. However, I think that if you turn your scope in the tubes so the eyepiece is vertical when halfway through the right ascension arc then you will have a usable position for more occasions. but yes, you are right about the reason for my suggestion.
