Hi All

New member here from South Wales. Iv'e just bought my first largish telescope. A Celestron edge hd 8" with the avx mount. I am going to use it for viewing to start then photography later. Any advise on kit for photography would be great. There's so many different options its very confusing.

Also what eyepieces would you recommend. It came with a 40mm eyepiece. Is a eyepiece kit with getting?

Thanks

Alex

hi Alex, and a warm welcome to SGL.  I cannot advise on photography as I am a visual observer.  I would advise against getting any kit as these are geared for faster focal ratios.  At f/2032 you will have to consider eyepieces very carefully.  For example, a 10mm will give you 200x, the highest practical power in our climate.  So you will be looking for eyepieces of longer focal lengths in general.  An 18mm will give you 112x which is a good medium range and the 40mm already supplied will give you 50x which is good for low power use and some DSO's.  For ep recommendations it depends on your budget and whether photography is more important to you than visual observing etc.

Hi and welcome.

I recommend that you get a dew shield and heater - FLO do a combined shield/heater. They dew up really quickly. It depends what sort of AP you will be doing but a Canon could be a good all rounder to begin with as it will do planetary and DSOs. I use my Canon with Backyard EOS (BYE) but APT is free if you want to try it. I would have a go at planetary first as you can do non guided and it does not need Polar Alignment.

Hi and welcome to SGL  - Glad that you found us and hope that you enjoy your time here. Good advise about buying the book 'Making Every Photon Count' if you are interested in DSO's - If planetary is your thing then it won't be as useful.

Look forward to seeing you around :)
