New 80mm refractor?

Recommended Posts

I'm doing some medium term planning for my present set up and have come to the conclusion that I could do with making my wide field imaging set up smaller and lighter.

At present I have a SW 80ED with a 66mm guidescope. I'm thinking of getting a smaller 80mm scope (the SW80ED is in an oversized tube) and using a finder/guider for guiding.

Any suggestions on a suitable 80ed that can be had for less than £500 (£400 if secondhand)?

Thanks

Not 80mm but basically looks like everything in one package for what you want now and later.

As mentioned not 100% sure about CA on the short WO ED's, there will be some, they are just too fast for ED glass to do a better job.

Thanks. I'm tempted, but I want to do a bit more research before jumping in.

The Celestron 80ED has the same optics as the Skywatcher ED80 but in a smaller diameter tube. They are out of production now but used to go for relatively few £'s on UK Astro Buy & Sell. I believe the Celestron's tube is 90mm rather than the 100mm that the SW ED80 uses.
