How do you do you "star drift" polar align?

I have a cg-4 mount, a 150pds and a nikon d5200 that i can connect to backyard nikon (astrophotography software) it has drift align feature on there that has a red crosshair and you can rotate the cross hair and pan it around the live view.

Ive tried to look online at how to drift align but i am so confused.

I would be very thankful if someone could explain the process in 'newbie talk'. I can align the scope with the polar scope and i have done quite a few times but i'd like to align it more accurately by using the drift align method.

Id also like to get the heq5 for xmas too so id like to learn the method before i upgrade to something bigger.
