Skellig Star Party 2015

In May of 2014 a group of like minded Amateur Astronomers from Clubs around Ireland got together to hold the 1st Open Star Party, It was decided that we should have it at Ireland/Europe's only Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve. From that simple idea grew the Skellig Star Party and moving on from it's 2014 success we have decided to make this an Annual event.

There will be plenty for all to do over the weekend as talks/workshops will take place on the Saturday afternoon followed by a tablequiz, There will also be a BBQ on the Friday evening, Saturday morning/evening in aid of Bernardos.

Nice one! Would love to make it this coming year. Was coincidentally in Ballinaskellig same weekend last August on hols with family, but couldn't get to the star party to say hi - young baby! Did get outside in the moonless clear dark Saturday night with naked eye + binos - Wow!! It's an amazing place to visit - spectacularly beautiful and did a boat trip to the Skelligs... simply mind blowing.

This looks fantastic! Would love to come. I'm relatively new to astronomy (and Ireland), had my first telescope for less than a week. Hopefully I'll be fully up to scratch by August.

I live in Waterford and was wondering if anyone here knows of any astronomy clubs in the area?

Check out the Skellig Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s home to a Spartan sixth-century Christian monastery and a large puffin population.

If i remember correctly, the Skellig islands are home to the largest Puffin colony in the world.

ATTENTION TO ALL THOSE ATTENDING 2015 SSP:

Due to it's exponential growth the 2015 SSP speakers will now be giving their talks in Cable O'Leary's(just a 5min walk from skellig lodge).. They have very kindly given us a room that can hold 80ppl seated and room for 20 more willing to stand.. We will also be holding our table quiz and raffle at the same venue.. So a big thank you to all in Cable O'Leary's for your support of the Skellig Star Party.

It's our great pleasure to announce that NASA's Dr Kimberly Ennico-Smith will be speaking at this years Skellig Star Party.

Here's a hint at the topic wink emoticon

In July 2015, a small probe from Earth meets Pluto, Space will never be the same.

Any luck with a club in Waterford? I live in East Cork - disappointed that 'First Fridays' in Blackrock Castle Observatory are no more... must join Cork Astro Club :)

Really hoping to join the Skellig Star Party - it will be my first! Reealllly want to get my 15" to the beautiful dark skies of Ballinaskellig
