Hi all,

I like to keep things simple so have come up with the following collection for my Orion 6" Dob.

I already have a Mk111 Baader Zoom and an Orion Shorty barlow and am planning the following.

Sell the barlow and buy an ES Maxvision 24mm and a William Optic 6mm SPL.

Nice and simple!

What do you guys think? Sound ok or are there better options for either end?

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

I like the 6mm WO SPL.,  that's a fine eyepiece

Hi Rob, I think your plan is good, and like me, you like to keep things simple.

Are you happy with your Baader zoom ? If so, that's the majority of your eyepiece requirements sorted. I've not tried the WO 6mm, but the comments in post #3 sound good, and a 6mm is a sensible high power for a 6" Dob, presumably that gives you 200x.

However, I'm certain you realise that the 24mm setting on the zoom gives the same mag as the 24mm Maxvision, so it's the wider apparent field of the Maxvision you are after - if it were me, I'd be looking for a lower power wider field than a 24mm, something in the 30 - 35mm range.

It's very much a personal decision, what suits me may not suit yourself, so please stick to your plan if you are happy with it.

Regards, Ed.

I've not tried the Maxvision 24, but it has a good reputation... and I've been tempted. I've got all three SPLs and IMO the 6mm is clearly the pick of them.

Good choice, and +1 for keeping it simple. The question is how long it'll stay that way ;-)

I have a gso 32mm and I compared it spec wise to the maxvision 24mm and in my 650mm 130p the seen fov was literally a smidge different I decided on the budget gso as my finder. The 24mm has almost identical fov but with greater magnification as a 24mm. So probably a better experience and more useable as it will see more.

I have not for the website to hand that let's you get the low down fov details on eyepieces. Very useful site.

The 16mm maxvision lovely views.

Thanks, I definitly want to try the 24mm.

If I hadnt of picked up the zoom for a good price (£100 s/h) I think I would still keep to my plan of keeping it simple and go for just a 24mm & 16mm MaxVision and a 2 x barlow, then the WO 6mm SPL, maybe even simpler than my proposed plan!

Cheers,

Rob.
