The Moon 3rd & 7th October

Decided to test out my new Canon 700D with some lunar shots as it has a higher resolution than the 1100D I was using previously (18MP vs 12MP) and wanted to see if that translated to higher IQ in practise.

This shot was taken on the 3rd October with my 250mm zoom lens, it's about a hundred frames stacked in Registax and sharpened with wavelets.

Also had a go with an old 450mm Soligor lens on the 7th. Both images have been cropped to an equal sized background, so they show the relative magnifications between the two lenses. Individual frames come out looking far better using the 250mm but wavelets really rescue the Soligor image. Comparing with my previous attempts the extra resolution is helping, which makes sense as the Moon is such a bright target.

Hope you like them, any suggestions for improvement would be welcome.

Great image Knight, first one is the best for me. I like how the contrast from dark to light is very soft, great capture.

nice sharp images. the first is better, but the nearly full moon is a tricky customer in terms of showing detail.

Thanks, that's something for me to bear in mind for future captures. I'd like to be able to process the shots in a consistent manner, so I can build up a bit of a library showing the different phases.
