Starlight 1
I made 2 sun filters, one for the telescope and one for the finderscope. You will have to imagine this until I have put pictures in but they look like mortar board hats. This way when you look through the finderscopeyou have a nice big area around the outside so the sun doesn't get in your eyes. It also makes it much easier to make as it only consists ofa disc to fit around the outside, 2 square pieces of cardboard with the middles cut out and one square piece of solar film sandwiched in between. No glue, just tape around the 4 edges of the square to hold it all together and just tape the cylinder to one side. Have been using it for about 2 monthswithout any issues but am a bit wary on windy days, other than that I feel it is quite safe.
Uplooker
Well done. Any astronomer worth their salt always partakes in DIY. Long may you enjoy it. Just think what you might start to construct / make / build in your observatory.Ian
Starlight 1
Here a pic take under 5 mins each to make. but take care when looking at the Sun I use a camera or webcam only as the wind may pull the filter off ,You only got one pair of Eyes so take care of them. Uplooker
You should fix the filter on with tape or such like so there is no chance at all of the filter coming/ blowing off.Ian
nytecam
That's in interesting approach - tube + mortarboard For my solar filters I used small cardboard boxes slightly larger than the scope aperture with two apertures - one for the Baader solar filter and one to fit the end of scope - works well and no tubes to make
