Ascom Sync Device for multiscope dithering on one mount.

The Multi Scope Dithering and lack of support has to be resolved.

Im thinking a Lan Ascom device which can be communicated with to give a status info say pause, go

Lan so multiple devices / applications can communicate  with it over a network.

It might give a small delay, but is this viable?

Hi Earl,

Excuse my ignorance, but by Lan you mean wired network? then yes there may be delays in the system. These are made worse over Wi-Fi.

To get around some of these restrictions the IEEE have come up with a set of tech standards to get around this see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Video_Bridging

As a thought,  It may be possible to connect each device to an individual Arduino type device which could then be linked into a ring ?

How would you get your capture software to obey the commands from Ascom?

Hi Earl

Excuse my ignorance, but have I missed something here?  Your post sounds like it's the the continuation of an existing thread, is this the case?  If so, a link to this thread would be helpful.

Does this thread relate to problems trying to get image capture software to co-operate with dithering when using two or more cameras simultaneously on the same mount?  If it is, what software are we talikng about?

Thanks

Sorry for been a bit vague, I rushed it.

Take maxim for instance, You can get a plugin which communicates via Lan to multiple clients running the plugin and Maxim, so you can dither on the main and it will tell all the other cameras to start taking the sub when it starts to do so with the main Maxim, however there are no other controls other than take a sub, so you cant script filters / focus routines in etc, its a workable solution but not as flexable as it could be.

What im refering to is a device which can be queried via ASCOM from multiple clients / applications on the same PC or Multiple PCs, VM's , Mac, Linux, Win etc, This device would be able to inform the querys what the should be doing, there might be a set of rules which need to be followed so its controlled. something like.

Master Client to device.

Sub downloading, Dithering, pause all subclients until told otherwise

All the clients arond the same time will be asking what to do, due to the pause from the master they wait.

When the master has dithered and is ready to go it tells the device that all can start

Im sure some form of timers will be needed, the Maxim one works pretty instatly from what i can see.

Once a device has an ascom driver, this can be added into aplications, it might not even need to be a physical device maybe an ascom simulator style aplication.
