For anyone who didn't want to download an unknown file here is a still picture of the video.

I have only just got the scope, mainly for my little boy, and the only reason we had a dslr attached is so he can watch the live view on the laptop as he finds the eyepieces a bit difficult. This was our first real attempt at setting everything up and so was really pleased to catch it. It also gave a little bit of excitement to my 6 year old as well (don't tell Auspom but it was really him that got it not me he was choosing when to press the record button on the laptop).

I only wish our attempts at Jupiter at 4am were as successful. It just seemed impossible to get clear focus on it. We were using a canon 550d in movie crop mode on a celestron 127 slt. The live view resulted in a very large Jupiter on the screen the iso was only at 400 but trying to get sharp focus was impossible I just have very blurred videos. I understand that a webcam is probably better but when you have a dslr anyway might as well use it. Any tips? I am not sure if it was just the LP and seeing conditions as we were in the centre of Sheffield at the time but any advise would be appreciated.

The video is great but it really shows how much muck a plane pushes into the atmosphere. I sometimes notice on clear nights the trails of smoke spread out very fine & cause widespread transparency issues as water condenses even more on the vapor thus making a cloud of aircraft muck!

Nice catch!

Contrails are grim. Commute into London on a crisp clear early morning and it can be gloriously blue in Essex but then you catch all the transatlantic planes all coming into London for the early morning runway openings and the sky gets completely clouded over by them by the time you arrive. Ugly. Simply can't be good.
